Cassius Hugan Johnson, Sr., "Cash", died July 5, 2004, at the Bortz Nursing Home in West Branch (Ogemaw County), Michigan at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel, with the Reverend William Winter officiating, with burial in the Maple Valley Cemetery in Richfield Township (Roscommon County), Michigan.
Mr. Johnson was born on September 14, 1920, in Flint (Genesee County), Michigan, the son of Morris Johnson and Olga Parr. He married Mary Kelly in Flint, Michigan in July of 1940.
He moved to Maple Valley, Michigan, from Flint in 1980 and was a skilled laborer for AC Spark Plug. He was a member of Skilled Trades Union Local #631, Scoutmaster for Eagle Scouts and had served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen; 2 sons, Cassius Hugan Johnson, Jr. and Paul Edward Johnson, both of Flint, Michigan. one brother, Morris, one grandson, Robert Humble; great-grandson, Tyler Humble, of Ohio.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen (Norman) Swain, of Maple Valley, one sister, Victoria Hemper, of Ohio; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
