Charles Benjamin Johnson

Age 93 of Durand passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at the Lodges of Durand.

Funeral services will be held 1pm, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12pm until the time of service.

Charles was born November 16, 1925 in Durand, the son of George and Madeline (Shier) Johnson.

He attended Durand High School and proudly served in the United States Army during WWII.

Charles was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a very talented woodworker making all kinds of shelves, tables and other items throughout the years.

He married Lorraine Joan (Kautz) Johnson in Flint on April 21, 1951.

Charles retired from the Grand Trunk Railroad.

Charles is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughters Debra (Tom) Yankee and Sharon Mundy; sons Kurt Johnson and Marc Johnson; 11 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; other loving family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings Annibel Sharp, George Johnson Jr and Donald Johnson; special daugher-in-law Charlotte.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
