Cheyenne Ceremony, Montana 1891
This photo is entitled the Great Omaha pow-wow dance of the Cheyennes. It was taken in Montana in 1891, probably on the reservation in southern Montana. The reservation was created by President Chester A. Arthur on November 16, 1884.
These are probably the "northern cheyenne" known by themselves as Notameohmésêhese or Ohmésêhese, meaning "northern eaters" or "eaters".
