The Handcart Company 1897 Utah
The handcart company was the name given to Mormon pioneers (mainly from England, Wales, Scotland and Scandinavia) who couldn't afford wagons. Between 1856 and 1860, they pulled handcarts from Iowa or Nebraska to Utah, loaded with their possessions and families. More than 210 of the 980 pioneers in the two companies died along the way.
