Cornelia Beal Leonard Harty

I’ve “rescued” an old photograph identified as Cornellia BEAL LEONARD HARTY which was taken at the J. Beardsley Studio in Ithaca, NY. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880’s with Cornelia appearing to be in her 30’s or 40’s at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Cornelia:

Cornelia BEAL or BALL was b. 16 Nov 1840 and married first Mark LEONARD and then her second marriage was to Martin VanBuren HARTY (1839-1914). Cornelia died 14 Feb 1911 in Ithaca and is buried in the Ithaca City Cemetery in Ithaca. Her obituary indicates that she lived in Ithaca her entire life and that her surviving family members included a daughter, Mrs. Clara CONRAD (1859-1929); two sons, William H. LEONARD and Walter H. LEONARD (1863-1941); all of Ithaca along with a Brother Gilbert BALL of Rochester, NY.

Clara E. CONRAD, age 49, married 30 years, 1 child/1 living, born NY, parents born NY, a Dressmaker

I’m uncertain if Cornelia’s maiden name was BEAL or BALL based on the conflict between the note on the photograph and the obituary reference to her brother’s name being BALL. I’m hoping to locate someone from Cornelia’s family so that this lovely old photograph can be returned to the care of her family.
