Corrido de Reyes Ruiz. Corrido de Martín Herrera
Broadside shows simple ornamental border dividing the text which, in verse, consists of two ballads. The "Ballad of Reyes Ruiz," by Epigmenio Gonzales, conveys the killing of Ruiz on the eve of a Dieciseis de Septiembre (Mexican Independence Day) celebration. He is warned by his mother not to attend, but he goes anyway, gets drunk and is killed by Plutarco. The "Ballad of Martín Herrera," by Marcelino Sorio, conveys the killing of Herrera for being a crafty bandit.
