Johnson, David Matthew

Loving husband and father of five, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the age of 78.

Born on August 26, 1940 in Jackson Michigan, to Matty and Dorothy (Shaughnessy) Johnson, he was the fourth of ten children, fourth in that line. He was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Dorothy, his sisters Rita, Eileen, and Judy, and his daughter in-law, Janice Ruge. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Christine (Ludwig) Johnson, sons Donald, Scott (Cary), Mark (Cindy), David (Connie) and Timothy (Jeanine), ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Robert, Richard, Kathy, Margie, Carol and Dorothy. Known to the world as “Spike”, he was a loving husband, dedicated father, and very patient grandfather.

David forged a long career in design and engineering at manufacturing plants and on large power plant control systems. He enjoyed traveling and living in many different areas of the country during his career. But his true love was his family, friends and faith. He always made sure his family had opportunity and support for any and every endeavor they pursued. He was generous of his time and energy to his family and community as demonstrated by being a volunteer coach in youth hockey, and baseball, and he was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

He was always looked to as a foundation of strength for the family. He was a great role model for living a life dedicated to his family and friends. David was a joy to everyone and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be on Wednesday December 12, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 6:00 PM at the Desnoyer Funeral Home, 204 North Blackstone, Jackson Michigan.

Debby Stevens
I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
