That would be a christening ring...worn by each generation's children, in turn. The ribbon held the ring in place so it couldn't be taken off until after the christening. We have two rings in our family, one from the paternal side, and the other from the maternal. Both treasures.

I will say w/ a name like Elvia, wearing a ring & a ribbon bracelet, that this is a girl. It looks like she propped up on some sort of covered chair, w/ perhaps the mother's head hidden behind it. But, her unseen hands are holding onto her baby. I love how the baby's gown is swept up on one side.
