I don't think mom would be carrying her purse for a post mortem picture.....looks like they were on their way out the door, and someone said, " let me get a photo".....and by this time they did have ordinary cameras....but, it's a goofy way to hold the baby so she/he would be the focus.....ha
Toni Leah Medvetz I KNOW about pm photography.. you clearly don't.theres always someone who comments that a picture is pm. Learn the signs..the background,The dress, border round the picture, lividity, facial expressions...
Get over yourself Donna Appleby. So you are an expert in all things. Even rudeness. I said it looked like a pm photo. My opinion and I believe I am entitled to that.
We all know that there are those people who will hold to an opinion even if they have been proven wrong. They have the right to be completely wrong and ignorant if they want to.
I laugh every time someone sees an old picture and claims to be able to see the sadness in the eyes. They are also the same people who see a speck of dust in a picture and carry on about that spot being haunted.
Wow. My paternal grandfather was born in 1896. He died at age 63. I am now older than he was. It feels weird to know I am older than my grandfather was!
That beautiful baby must be sitting on something. If mom and dad were holding her free style you would be seeing her neck more if she were dangling in air. Its a lovely family picture, and mom looks happy dad is trying to look reserved. I hope they had a good day after picture was taken.
We are going on a trip soon and when I stroll the antique shops as I love to do...I will search through any black and white photos and hopefully add to my little collection. The hardest thing to find are the photo booth photos on strips.
As opposed to sticking their deceased baby on a pole?? The baby lived into her 80's as told to you by THE OWNER of the picture. It's sat on a high chair with ma and pa holding its hands..its feet have wiggled causing blurring.. .
Sometimes they did this for family passport photos. I have the one for my mom and the one for my dad when they were really young. In the early 1900's the entire family was on the passport. At least that's what mom and dad said.
People had humility then. No duck faces, no posing, just photos and there was nothing wrong with that. They all look happy even though there are no forced smiles.

Portrait photographs and paintings of our loved ones and ancestors.
Before photos we had paintings of family members - most usually these were reserved for the well off. The era of modern photography began with the daguerreotype, in 1839. Since the advent of photogr...
