Freeman family
James Hardaway Freeman was born in Smyth Co., VA. His father, William Nance Freeman, b. 1791 is said to have come from Belfast, Antrim, Ireland. His father goes by Jack and it is said he was lost at sea on the voyage to America. He married Sarah Fleming in Amelia Co., VA, went to Nottaway Co. and settled in Smyth co. His son James Hardaway Freeman fought in the civil war and made shoes for the soldiers.
