Gamma Hi-Y

Janet was born on May 1, 1932 to Frank E Forbes and Elizabeth Koehler in Jamaica, New York and was her parent's only child. She attended Sewanhaka High School and was involved with French Club and Gamma Hi-Y, a philanthropic and social club at school. In 1959 she married Carl P. Eiler in Manhattan, New York City, New York, and they had one child together, Betsy Johnston. She was a school teacher for the Island Trees Public Schools in Long Island and continued her philanthropic efforts started in high school by volunteering and spending her time with family and friends. She was an avid member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Drums, where she served as the financial secretary and volunteered at Eckley Miners' Village, a local museum. Janet loved spending time at her home on Lake Nuangola where she died unexpectedly on August 3, 2005. Even in death, she was philanthropic with the family requesting donations in honor of Janet to various organizations including her church, miner's village, and more.
