George LeGrand Smith
I've recovered an old photograph album from the late 1800's including faculty and students from Oberlin College which includes a photograph identified as G. LeGrand SMITH. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with the young man likely in his 20's at the time it was taken. The photograph was taken by the Pfeifer Studio from Columbus, OH who probably came to take all the photographs at the Oberlin campus. I believe that this is a photograph of George LeGrand SMITH and was able to gather the following information regarding George and his family:

George LeGrand SMITH was b. 27 Feb 1861 in Somerset, MI to parents George Anson SMITH (1825-1893) and Catharine or Catherine Boss SIMONS or SIMONDS or SIMMONDS (1823-1864). George was one of 6 children born to this couple including Julia Octavia; Fredrick “Fred” Simonds or Simmonds; Azariel or Azarial or Azard; Mary Antionette; George LeGrand; and Stewart Kedzie SMITH, all born between 1852 and 1864. After his mother died his father married Catherine B. FITZ RANDOLPH (1835-1917) and two additional children were born including Frank R. SMITH (1866-1922) and Catherine B. SMITH (1874-1956).

George married Nellie Irvilla HUNTLY or HUNTLEY (1867-1959) in 1893 and they had three children including Julia A.; Marian or Marion; and Sarah or Sara Catherine SMITH, all born between 1896 and 1903. George died 4 Feb 1933 in Somerset, MI and is buried in the Somerset Cemetery in Hillsdale Co., MI.

I am hoping to see the photograph returned to a family member and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.

Thanks,
Shelley
