George William Wayre
I have an old studio photograph which is identified as "Grandpa WAYRE" which was taken at the Bogardus Studio in New York City, NY in the 1870's . Grandpa appears to be in his 50's at the time the photograph was taken. The name George D. WAYRE is also written on the back of the photograph. I believe that photograph is of George D. WAYRE'S father George W. WAYRE.

Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family:

George William WAYRE was b. 1825 or 1835 in England to parents Charles WYRE (b. 1797) and Hariett NELSON (1797-1879). George had one sibling, a sister Frances Ellen WAYRE (b. 1837). George married Maria Frances D. SAVAGE (1828 or 1830-1911) on 11 Feb 1866 in Dougherty County, GA and they had five children including Sarah; Charles Drury; Harriet Nelson; Mary Augusta; and George Drury WAYRE, all born between 1859 and 1870.

George died in 1872 in New York City, NY and is buried in the Bayview-New York Bay Cemetery in Jersey City, NJ. His son George Drury WAYRE was b. 1870 in New Jersey and married Annie Josephine KEENAN, and they had two daughters including Dorothea Rowena WAYRE (b. 1893) and Josephine M. WAYRE (b. 1910).

I’d love to get the photograph back to a family member and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.

Thanks,
Shelley
