On this day in 1954, Hitchcock's iconic movie "Rear Window" premiered. Star Grace Kelly's first appearance in the film is in this dress, an Edith Head original. Wow!

Edith Head was born in 1897 and began her career as a Spanish teacher until she pivoted into costume design. Thank goodness she did, as you can tell she had quite the talent! She worked at Paramount Pictures for 44 years and then Universal Pictures from 1967 until her death in 1981. She won a record eight Academy Awards for Best Costume Design between 1949 - 1973.

AncientFaces, they must have some lighting that makes it look blue.. down by her right waist side, reflect a hint of dark blue

Just watched the movie 2 days ago and will watch it again tonight. As a fashion historian, I love Miss Lisa Carol Fremont's clothes, courtesy of Edith Head. Brilliant film from start to finish.

One of the best casts in all of the Alfred Hitchcock movies, stared James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter, and Raymond Burr, ALL of whom are long gone now. They don't make 'em like that any more!

Rear Window is the best. Love Edith Head. I think her last credit was for Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Steve Martin's film noir spoof where they splice a lot of old movies in. Fun movie!
