Harrison Franklin Rutledge
Harrison Franklin Rutledge was known as "Harry" to everyone in Gilmer who knew him. He was the second or six children born to William Archibald Rutledge and Sarah Ophelia Durham. In 1899, the family moved to Upshur County, Texas, where Harry remained until his death. Harry was both a rural mail carrier and the owner of a small country store just south of Gilmer. In his time, he rented out camping trailers, sold creosote posts and raised cattle. Harry was a great storyteller and kept his granddaughter, Rosalyn, fascinated with stories of family and friends. His son, Lowell, continued the tradition of telling wonderful stories. His granddaughter, Rosalyn, not only continued the storytelling tradition, she went one step further and became a published novelist.
