Ralph Wendell Rutledge
This is the country store my grandparents owned. It was across the road from their house. Uncle Ralph helped run it. He never married and never moved out of his parents' home. He continued to live there after their deaths. The store was torn down by the highway dept to enlarge St. Hwy 300 (was FM 1403) about the time Ralph passed away.

This was taken at the annual Rutledge Reunion held at his and Lillie's place every July 4th. It was a covered dish and there was always lots of food and family visiting.

William Archibald Rutledge was born on May 5, 1861 to Nathan Franklin Rutledge. He was in a relationship with Sarah Ophelia Durham beginning November 11, 1885 in Independence County, Arkansas United States, and they were together until Sarah's death on February 12, 1949. He had a child Harrison Franklin Rutledge. William Rutledge died at age 89 years old on December 22, 1950.
Rosalyn Rutledge Alsobrook spent the first eighteen years of her life in Daingerfield, Texas, under the loving guidance of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. L. E. Rutledge, who encouraged her liberally in all her early endeavors, including a weekly newspaper column for a local newspaper, which she created and wrote during her senior year of high school. That was her first taste of seeing her work published.
Soon after marrying high school sweetheart, Bobby Alsobrook of Pittsburg, Texas early in 1971, she and her husband moved to Longview, Texas, where they lived for five years. During their first year in Longview, their older son (Andrew) was born. Even so, Rosalyn attended Kilgore College and became feature editor of the college newspaper (The Flare) for two years. Soon thereafter, she joined the frantic world of working mothers. Also during that time she sold short articles to magazines and did some technical writing in the medical field.
In 1976, she and Bobby moved to Gilmer, Texas, where they established and operated their own auto parts business for ten years. Shortly after moving to Gilmer in 1977, second son (Anthony) was born. In that time, Rosalyn not only did the office work and helped on the counter of the auto parts store, she wrote a weekly newspaper column called "The Shade Tree Mechanic" and continued to freelance magazine articles; but soon gave that up for bolder endeavors. At the encouragement of her husband, she started her first book in 1979 and by 1981 had the pleasure of seeing THE THORN BUSH BLOOMS on the shelves. She quickly became addicted to book writing.
By the turn of the century, this "bestselling" author had twenty-nine books published and, at last count Rosalyn Alsobrook has over two million copies of her works in print. Her books have been translated into seven languages and circulated in eighteen countries. She has won many reviewer awards and research awards, as well as the prestigious RWA Lifetime Achievement Award voted on by over 3000 of her writer peers.
In addition to novel writing, she was an associate editor of a regional magazine, "The Host". She has sold fillers to medical magazines and contributed to several books about writing technique. Rosalyn is a charter member of (Romance Writers of America (RWA) formed in 1980 and was a member and twice past-president of East Texas Writers' Association of Longview, Texas as well as the very first treasurer for PASIC, a national group of published authors which she helped found in 1996.
In 1997, life intervened and she had to set aside her writing to take care of her seriously ill mother, and then her brother. Her mother passed away in 2001 and her brother in 2002. After that, the desire to write novels had dampened and she chose to return to the medical environment she found comforting.
Back in January of 1990, she had become a grandmother when Christina Nicole Alsobrook was born. In 2003, grandson, Bryce, was born. In 2004, she and her husband moved to the country and Rosalyn found herself busy taking care of her family, the house, their pets and her garden during her time off work. In 2021, it was time to downsize, and Bobby and Rosalyn moved to nearby Longview, Texas, where they now are both retired.
Although writing is no longer a large part of Rosalyn's life, she does still dabble with it. She has been known to put together picture books for her family members and writes pieces about her ancestors as she works on her husband's and her own genealogy.

Robert Lee was the eldest child of Ralph Capers Alsobrook, Sr. He was born in Hope, Hempstead County, Arkansas while Ralph lived in nearby Emmet. He was four years old in 1910 when the family lived in Thompson, Pike County, Arkansas. Between 1906 and 1908, the family had moved to Franklin County, Arkansas where he met and married May Belle Buchanan in 1915. He had recently turned 29 and she had recently turned 22. They moved around the NE Texas area, living in Talco of Titus County in 1917 and in Mt Pleasant of Titus County in 1920. They were in the community of Minter of Lamar County by 1930. In 1935, they were in Hopkins County and 1940 they had returned to Titus County where they were in April 1942 when he filled out his draft registration card. Before 1953, they had moved to Monterey, California and lived with various daughters until his death in 1959. He is buried in Mission Memorial Park of Seaside, California.
At some point before her death, Maybelle moved back to Hopkins County, Texas which is where her only living son lived. She died in Sulpher Springs, which is the nearest city to the community of Como, where he lived.
Robert's sister, Inez, married May Belle's brother, Robert Wilson Buchanan. They married eight months prior to Robert and May Belle. Inez and her Robert moved from NE Texas (having lived in the same counties as Robert and May Belle) to Galveston, Texas before 1940. The children of the two couples are double cousins.

Ralph's mother, Sue Ann (Snow) Alsobrook decided to sell her deceased husband's land in Louisiana and move on to Arkansas along with much of her family. She took her children Ralph, Ann Eliza and William R. with her. Two of her daughters had died while the family still resided in Carroll Parish, Louisiana.
Between 1903 and 1906, Ralph, Mattie and their eight children at that time moved on to Texas. That's where their last two children were born. The family first lived in Red River County, but Ralph and Mattie ended up in Franklin County, Texas.

My husband's grandfather is Bobby Nox Pilgrim. He was illiterate most of his life, so he signed documents with his name misspelled or completely wrong (with his X). He just trusted that whoever was having him sign something was accurate. His father was also mostly illiterate and allowed census takers to take liberties with family names. Once Bobby married Beaulah, his records become clearer. Beulah was not at all illiterate, so records tended to be correct if she was present when he signed something.

Sarah Maggie (Haskins) Pilgrim was born in 1864 in Arkansas United States, and died at age 122 years old in 1986 in TX. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Maggie Mae Pilgrim.
He is buried in the Spring Hill Missionary Cemetery that is just a little off Hwy 11, a little closer to Pittsburg than Daingerfield. He must have died at home since there is no Hospital in Daingerfield.
