Jack H. Holbrook, 79, Ret. Col. U.S. Army, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away on July 12, 2015, at Via Elegante in Hereford, Ariz.

Jack was born and raised in the coal mining community of Kona, Ky.

He attended Millersburg Military Institute and went on to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University in 1957 and then entered the Army, serving as an artillery officer before he transferred to the Army Security Agency. During his military career he earned an MBA from the University of Arizona and attended the Command and General Staff College, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and Pennsylvania State University’s Executive Management Program. He was a Vietnam veteran. He retired from the Army in 1983 as chief of staff of the USAICS. The following 10 years he worked with government contractors.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia Music Holbrook; daughters, Ann (Greg) Herrick of Lake Wylie, S.C., LTC Ret. Vickie (Col. Ret. Ethan) Emmons of Garden Ridge, Texas, and Jacquie (Kevin) Elmore of Danville, Calif.; granddaughters, Sarah (Wes) Williford, Emily Herrick, and Erika Emmons; grandsons, Jacob Herrick, Jack Elmore, and Bennett Emmons; and great-granddaughter, Ryder Williford.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Edna Addington Holbrook; brothers, Ray and Jesse; and sisters, Lela Bentley and Rebecca Nowak.

Jack was an avid sportsman, loving to play basketball, tennis, and golf.

Jack’s family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Via Elegante for their loving care and support.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015, at Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery chapel.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
