James Beck Gordon
James Beck Gordon was born on July 14th, 1945, to John Shields Gordon and Drummer Faces Trial for Killing. He had one brother, known as John Beck. James Gordon married Jill Helene Barabe on August 26th, 1965 in Clark County, Nevada. He was 19 years old. James and Jill divorced in October of 1969 in Los Angeles, California. After a career playing the drums with multiple well-known rock stars, including the Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison, and may others, James "Jim" succumbed to worsening mental illness. In 1983, he became convinced that his widowed mother was controlling him through a voice in his mind and he went to her apartment and violently murdered her. See North Hollywood and Drummer Faces Trial for Killing. Found guilty of his mother's murder, Jim spent decades in prison for the murder and died in a prison medical facility in Vacaville, California at the age of 77. See James Beck Gordon: Obituary. Also see a long article in the magazine "Rolling Stone" about Jim's musical career, the murder of his mother, and his incarceration. Jim Gordon, Eric Clapton Drummer . . ..

Osa Marie Gordon
Osa Marie (Beck) Gordon was born on December 7th, 1911 in Colby, Kansas, to Henry Vorhees D. Beck (1868 - 1924) and Hettie Ann Wolfe (1890 - 1981). Her father was born in Missouri and her mother was born in Tennessee. Osa had three siblings: two sisters, Lea, born 1914 and Thelma, born 1917, and one brother: Dr. Henry Vorce Beck, born 1920. Osa Marie Beck married John Shields Gordon. on November 23rd, 1942, in Washington, D.C. They had two sons: James Beck Gordon, and John Beck. Osa's son, James Beck Gordon, achieved fame as a drummer, winning a Grammy in 1970 for his collaboration with Eric Clapton on "Layla," which won "Best Rock Song." Tragically, he was later convicted of second-degree murder for the killing of his mother and sentenced to sixteen years to life in prison. At the time of the crime, he had recently been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia although he had been exhibiting signs of mental illness for years and had been complaining of "hearing voices" during that time. Osa was murdered by her son, James, on June 3rd, 1983 in North Hollywood, California. She was 71 years old and a widow - James' father had died years earlier -and is buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery in Section 322 Row M, in Los Angeles, California. The sad story of a successful son killing his own mother was covered in local newspapers such as Drummer Faces Trial for Killing. The following article was written just before his first trial: Drummer Faces Trial for Killing. See a photo of Osa's son, James Beck Gordon, who killed her. He died in 2023 in the California Medical Facility in Vacaville, California. James Beck Gordon. Also see James Beck Gordon: Obituary.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director
My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
