James Beck Gordon was born on July 14th, 1945, to John Shields Gordon and Drummer Faces Trial for Killing. He had one brother, known as John Beck. James Gordon married Jill Helene Barabe (a professional dancer, often featured on the Dick Clark produced musical television series "Where the Action Is" from 1965-1967) on August 26th, 1965 in Clark County, Nevada. He was 20 years old. James and Jill divorced in October of 1969 in Los Angeles, California. After a career playing the drums with multiple well-known rock stars, including the Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison, and many others, James "Jim" succumbed to worsening mental illness. In 1983, he became convinced that his widowed mother was controlling him through a voice in his mind and he went to her apartment and violently murdered her.
