Johnny Mathis Holbrook, also known as Buddy Row or Junior was born October 21, 1974, to the union of John and Cressie Smith-Holbrook in Flint, Michigan. He later moved to Kankakee, Illinois with his family as a young man.

Johnny received his formal education in Flint Michigan at Beecher High School. After graduation, he worked as a general laborer. Johnny was a free spirit, and loved fishing, sports, and music. He was always eager and willing to help others in any way he could. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends & family, and spending quality time with his loved ones. He had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. For this he will truly be missed.

Johnny Holbrook departed this life unexpectedly at the age of 44, on Monday, April 1, 2019. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jesse and Lizzie Holbrook, maternal grandfather, Eugene Hansbrew.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Zharmell Brewster of Kankakee, Illinois; his mother Cressie Holbrook of Kankakee, IL; his father John Holbrook of Flint Michigan; sons; Johnnie M. Holbrook, and Jamar M. Holbrook of Champaign, IL; daughters, Precious J. Holbrook, and Cressie A. Holbrook of Kankakee, IL; sisters, Rhonda K Holbrook, Pamela D. Holbrook, Katesha (Kesha) Holbrook-Starks, VaShonna R. Holbrook all of Kankakee, IL; brother William E. ( L'Tanya) Crumble of Clinton, Ky; grandmother Minnie Williams of Kankakee, IL; stepchildren, Kadijah Bailey, Markell Sanders of Champaign, IL, Kevon Holbrook, Kenya Caffey of Kankakee, IL; aunts; Francis (Berry) Williams, Denise Jones, Lorraine (William) Samuels, Marilyn Morrow all of Kankakee, IL, Mattie (Jesse) Patrick, Lily Holbrook both of Flint Michigan, Martha Holbrook of Clinton Kentucky, uncles; Robert Williams, Rodney Rush, Howard Williams, Harold Wayne Williams all of Kankakee, IL, Jesse Holbrook of Grand Rapids Michigan, Robert (Kathy) Holbrook of Flint Michigan; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
