LOWELL -- Joseph Timothy Quealey, a resident of Moore Street, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, following a brief stay at Wingate of Belvidere. He was 79 years old. Joe was born in Boston on August 5, 1937, a son of the late David and Margaret (O'Hehir) Quealey. He was a graduate of the Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High School, Class of 1956. Following High School, Joe served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, stationed in New Orleans, LA. Joe was a grocer his whole life, having co-owned and operated Quealey's Market on S. Whipple Street with his brother, John. When they sold the market in 1993, Joe went to work for Market Basket at the Stadium Plaza Store. When the Quealey's owned the Market, Joe sponsored a neighborhood softball team that won the 1986 State Championship. Joe was a gentleman. He went about his life in a quiet, unassuming way. Joe was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church until its closing. He was also a lifelong member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks. Joe was a classic movie buff, enjoying all of the great movies on the Turner Classic Movie Channel. He enjoyed sweets and never missed an episode of Jeopardy. Joe loved his nieces and nephews tremendously. Surviving Joe are his sister, Clare S. Dube and her husband, Philip R. Dube of Lowell; one brother, James M. Quealey and his wife, Peachie R. Quealey of Lowell; his God Child and niece, Deborah, whom he was especially close to, and his nieces, Katie, Susan, Holly, Kerry, and Jamie; one nephew, Philip; several grandnieces and grandnephews, and many friends. Joe was the brother of the late David Quealey who died January 18, 2015, and John F. Quealey who died October 7, 2016. QUEALEY -- In Lowell, February 17, 2017 at Wingate, Joseph T. I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director
My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
