When Lewis VeVea was born on February 18, 1880, in Anoka, Minnesota, his father, Louis, died 5 1/2 months earlier, his mother, Josephine, was 24. He married Sophia Karen Heggen in 1900. They had eight children in 17 years. He died on March 8, 1961, in Pennington, Minnesota, at the age of 81, and was buried in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
