This historic estate was built by Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to General Foods, in the 1920s in Palm Beach, FL and stayed in the family until her death in 1973. Do you know its name?

Funny but not! My son is an RN in the step-down ICU unit, mostly cardiac patients fresh from surgery, in Ft Lauderdale and it’s too close to the coast. Emergency actions are taking place! He will be there for any length of duration. Another son in Jacksonville, FL near the coast. Hurricanes will hit where they will at the the last moment. I survived Katrina while we turned into a 3rd world country, an hour above New Orleans, didn’t even get mail for months. So I’m a concerned praying mother! I asked my son to find out where the generators were located. The hospitals in New Orleans thought they were completely prepared and all the generators flooded! Too many died! No power, no water, no air, the heat relentless! Prayers, good thoughts, whatever you do, please do it for the area’s affected!

Michelle Harrison-Kintner, there are many newbies in Florida, including out-of-state college students. The point being that not everyone is hurricane wise, or hurricane ready.

Michelle Harrison-Kintner Ummm, Yes, I know who owns Marilago. No I’m not caring about Trump! Only that of my sons in Florida. My response was surviving Katrina. I’m north of New Orleans. I haven’t been living in New Orleans for years now. As a child, maybe 10-11? We went thru Betsy. It was terrifying, when the eye passed over it was so strange. By then daytime, sun, blue skies, before it started all again.

If you’d really read my post, you would know that I was not in Florida! I’ve been thru many hurricanes since Katrina, not good but nothing like the unadulterated ordeal of Katrina.

My point is, this isn't the topic or the place to post it. If you want to share your past hurricane stories why do it in a thread about an estate in Florida???on a site called AncientFaces??? Wouldn't your vast experience with storms be better offered on a storm experience page or thread?

Suzanne Berglund-Edwards, we went through Betsy, too, along with so many others. I remember the first one was named Diane. That was a long time ago.

Michelle Harrison-Kintner, Googling isn't like living it. Newbies may not know if their area is prone to flooding. Or that hurricanes aren't 100% predictable. Or what supplies they may need when the lights go out for days or weeks. Or that they shouldn't board up all their windows so that their house is airtight. Or that they need to fill up their tub for flushing their toilets, or that they should never ride it out in a mobile home, or when they should leave their home, or how congested the roads will be, or what they need to take with them if they leave, or that some shelters don't take in pets.

Michelle Harrison-Kintner You are unbelievable! The administrator of this page was talking about a possible horrific hurricane, using MaraLago as an example. You brought up politics with Trump. Right page,NO. I’m not talking politics about him. Surely you saw him visiting Puerto Rico, so disappointing in how careless he was there. Not politics, just reality!
Apparently, wherever you live, you are completely oblivious to what a severe hurricane can do. Wealth has nothing to do with it, not Trump, nor what I shared in this post. You do everything possible to be prepared, only to find out you’re out. With no way of getting more. No more gas for your generators unless you have a generex tied into city gas lines! Which I and most do not. 2 cars filled with gas, and the roads were impassable. Even the interstate! The administrator is free to delete all of my posts and You also are free to not read any of my comments. I’ve never had such a conversation on this page! I’ll excuse you for your innocence. If my experience, along with millions, can help anyone on this page, I’m thankful. In relevance to this page, my mother lost hundreds of pictures, many dating back to the mid 1800’s! Not even a handful were salvageable! AncientFaces will actually save all of your pictures for you on her website! Priceless for old photos that are irreplaceable!
