Dr. King received numerous awards including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977, the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004, was given a U.S. federal holiday in 1986. The Martin Luther King Jr. Monument was released on August 22nd, 2011 in Washington DC.
