Maude Mae DeWitt
A photo of Maude Mae DeWitt. Maudie was the daughter of Joseph W. DeWitt. She was born December 22, 1888 in Christian Co, Missouri and died January 3, 1979 in Denver, Colorado. Maudie is wearing a pendant with a photo of Paris "Toad" Hargis, in it. At the time of this photo she had just become, Mrs. Paris Hargis. They married August 14th, 1905 at - Ozark, Christian County, Missouri. As far as I am aware, they only had one child, Joseph "Joe" DeWitt Hargis (1907 - 1939). Isn't she a pretty one?

If anyone is aware of other children in this family, or if Joe possible fathered a child, I would be grateful for information or how to contact them, thank you.
Date & Place: at Colorado in Colorado United States

kinda true. cosmetics were seen as something to be used by ladies of ill repute (actresses, entertainers, dancers, bar maids...soiled doves) until about the 20s. It existed but no well bread lady would be seen wearing it or risk being scandalized.

I look like the wrath of God without makeup. I think genetics and also the era in question have a lot to do with how photogenic people, especially women, appear in very old photos. In those days, there were hardly any cosmetics that would benefit anyone.

Most women did not wear makeup in the early 1900s. It was not really considered proper for most women unless you were "a woman of the evening" so to speak. Lol she doesn't need it, she's beautiful but thank God that attitude changed lol

Born in Missouri and worked her way west to Colorado. We had family in Wyoming back then, but DeWitts were like Smiths in Holland where the name originated. It means "white". Hard to tell, but thanks, I'd admire to know I'm related to that beautiful little gal. Reminds me of my granddaughter. See her chin? I'll bet she was a stubborn one!
