Merrell LeRoy Holbrook, son of George and Lucy (Brace) Holbrook, was born on July 30, 1932, in Murray County, MN. Merrell was united in marriage with Mabel Brewer on September 6, 1952, in Sioux Falls, SD. Soon after they were married, Merrell enlisted with the United States Army in 1953, and served in the Korean War with the motor pool. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Sioux Falls. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mabel; children Merrell, Jr., (Peggy) Holbrook, Karen (Spencer) Pitts, Rose (Larry) Sistanich, Richard (Brenda) Holbrook, all of Sioux Falls, SD, Deborah (Michael) Lichtenberg, Brandon, SD, Leanna Tuttle, Stevens Point, WI, James (Inge) Holbrook, Manhattan, KS, Ronda (Rick) Otten, Lennox, SD; two sisters, Lucille (Don) Graff, Sioux Falls, SD, Etta Behrens, CO; a brother, Atwood (Rose) Holbrook, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jen & Erik Valland and their son, Mason, Sari & Dave Pien and their son Jonathon, Sandra Forney and her son Aidan, James & Ashley Tuttle and their daughters Lailah & Yazmin, Melissa Holbrook, Dwayne & Kathy Tuttle, Richie Holbrook and his son Ayren, Ray Tuttle, Kristin Willi, Mandy Holbrook, Jimmy Holbrook, Justin Willi, Courtney Holbrook, Austin Willi, Josh Holbrook, Amber Sistanich, Kelsey Holbrook, Alicia Sistanich, Trevor Holbrook, Ashley Sistanich, and BreeAnna Sistanich; and many other relatives and friends.
Merrell was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Basche; and three brothers, Robert, Keith, and Arthur.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
