Mr. and Mrs. Jan Kingma

Jan Willem Kingma (John William Kingma) was born on November 15, 1903 in Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands to parents Gerben Kingma (1869-1946) and Johanna Antonetta Logtenberg (1870-). He and his parents immigrated to the United States and arrived in New York, New York on October 25, 1910. The family then moved to Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA. In Michigan, Jan received his A.B. from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) and his M.A. from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). On December 25, 1926 he married Gezina Stuart (1903–1988). The couple had three children together. The family later moved to California and Jan worked at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. He was the assistant professor of Literature at Westmont in the 1960 and went on to become the Associate Professor of Literature in 1962.
