Officers of the 50th Regiment in Trincomalee, Ceylon, taken in 1863 just prior to
embarkation to the Maori Wars in New Zealand. The man in the front row centre, with cane, is Colonel Waddy. The bemedalled man behind is assumed to be Captain Clark ? Which one is, if at all , Lieutenant General Sir Henry Edwin WEARE KCB? I want a photo of this relative, and confirmed. The
Regimental HQ archives have nothing. Please Help.
I have two more old photo's from the 1863-66 of the 50th 'in the field'.
I do have an 1864 photograph of Lt/Gen Henry Edwin Weare's only brother-in-law Colonel Charles Vernon Oxenden of the Rifle Brigade (today
the Royal Greenjackets Regt at Winchester, Hants, UK). H.E.Weare's wife was Charlotte Georgiana Weare nee Oxenden, her brother died
young at 41, he commanded a division at the Indian Mutiny, received the
Indian Mutiny Medal. Sir Henry and Charlotte were guests at the wedding of
General Davidson in 1888, London. Weare made a good name here in New Zealand during the Maori Wars. He died the last day of the great century, 31/12/1899. His wife, Charlotte, who he married in 1850, died in - 1922! Does anyone recognize him in this photo or have a photo of him for comparison?
