OBITUARY
Richard H. Mason, age 87, a longtime resident of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI, surrounded by family. He was born on August 17, 1934, in Belleville, MI, to Charles Mason and Gladys (Price) Mason. Richard worked for Ford Motor Company and retired with 42 years, as well as ran his own business for several years following. He served our country in the Army and while active was part of the Honor Guard. Richard was recently Baptized again later in life at the Southern Baptist Church of Ypsilanti. He was a hardworking man who was a friend to many. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, friends, and dancing.
Richard had a way about his words. He would like to leave you with these, “Timing and attitude are everything. I did it my way.” -R.H.M.
Richard is survived by two daughters: Richelle Marie Brown of Ypsilanti, MI, and Carrie Burgess (Kevin) of Texas; his “Sweetheart,” Georgia Orrison of Ypsilanti, MI, and Deloras K. Wagner of Bradenton, Florida, the mother of his 3 beautiful daughters, two grandsons: Nicholas “Richard” Brown (Alex) and Tallon Robert Burgess “Papa’s little Phil” ; and his great-grandchild Brooks “Richard” Brown, his siblings: Charlotte Anton (Cornell) of Belleville, MI (Richard referred to his sister as the “love of his life”), brothers Phillip Mason of Saline, MI, and Thomas Mason of Canton, , MI, as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends both near and far who were a big part of his life.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and sadly his daughter, Sandra D. Daniel of Florida (d. 5/12/21).
According to Richard’s wishes dignified cremation rites have been accorded with the David C. Brown Funeral Home. Richard will be interred at the cemetery of his choice which he visited and loved. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida to honor his wishes. Richard was grateful and pleased with the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor for all the help he was given.
