IN THE CARE OF
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home
Robert Charles Holbrook passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isles on May 4, 2023, after a two-month illness and extended recent hospital stay. He was born on October 24, 1938, in Brockton, MA to Hollis Holbrook and Elin Anderson Holbrook. His parents preceded him in death as well as did his brother, Richard, in 1997.

Rob married Shirley Mueller (whom he met on Cape Cod) on June 20, 1970, in Danube, MN. They would have celebrated 53 years of marriage next month.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; 2 children, Matthew Holbrook (Liz) and Sarah Barnard (John) both of Statesboro; 2 grandsons, Chandler Barnard and Robbie Holbrook, both of Statesboro; 3 step-grandchildren, Blake Barnard of Stilson, GA, Baylee Barnard of Royal Oak, MI and Caitlin Daniels of Savannah.

Rob graduated from Brockton High School in 1956. He served 7 years with the MA National Guard. After high school, Rob worked for the Brockton/Taunton Gas Company for the next 10 years. In 1969, he began his career in the forklift truck manufacturing industry beginning with Lewis-Shephard Company in Watertown, MA. When Hyster Company assumed ownership in 1970, the Holbrook’s were moved to the Midwest – Danville, IL. Hyster Company transferred him to Brunswick, GA in 1988 where the Holbrook’s have resided since. Previously to this move, Rob had company transfers to IL, PA and again to Danville, IL. Rob retired from Hyster Company in 2000 after 32 years as a regional service engineer.

Rob’s interest included home renovation and improvement. He was a perfectionist and was a master of many trades – carpentry, electrical, automotive, and plumbing and was creative and talented in designing parts when none were available or when something could be made better.

He also enjoyed lawn care and gardening. In earlier years, he enjoyed his sailboat on Buzzards Bay on Cape Cod and more recently his fishing boat on St. Simons Sound. Rob was not a lover of golf but played socially to support the avid interest of his wife, Shirley. He was a doting husband and loving father and grandfather and loved seeing the accomplishments of his family. Rob treasured his time with his loving and devoted poodle, Oliver.

A casual celebration of life gathering will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Debby Stevens
I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
