Robert E. Crosby, age 82, 1928 - 2010 Beverly, Massachusetts
BEVERLY — Robert E. Crosby, 82, husband of Marjorie R. (Libby) Crosby, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Beverly, he was the oldest of eight children of Robert L. and Madalene (Dodge) Crosby. Bob attended Beverly schools and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1945. He started his career as a commercial engraver and news photographer at the Beverly Times while still in high school. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953. Bob retired from the photography department at the Lynn Daily Evening Item in 1993. He was active at the Immanuel Church in Ryal Side, serving Moderator, as a Deacon, and various other committees through the years. Bob was an active member of Boy Scout Troop Six in Ryal Side as a youth and later as an adult committee member.
Bob loved to garden and was sad he was unable to start one this year. In his retirement years, he was able to pursue his interest in woodworking ("entarsia"). He spent many summers at the cottage he built on Lake Ossipee, N.H. with his family.
Surviving him in addition to his wife is daughter, Susan E. Marcucci and her husband Richard of Beverly; son, Wayne R. Crosby and his wife Janet of Danvers; and daughter, Karen R. Occhipinti and her husband Lou of Beverly; his grandchildren, Steven and Amy Marcucci, Bryan and Kevin Crosby, and Jessica and Joseph Occhipinti; three sisters, Marcia Jenkins of Bath, Maine, Jeanne Blackburn of Cutler Ridge, Fla., and Janet Jones of Middleton; and one brother, Roger Crosby of Brentwood, N.H. He was the brother of the late Wendell, Loren and Walter Crosby.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Congregational Church, 140 Bridge St., Beverly on Thursday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
