Met Robin once lifetimes ago. In kid Angeles. He was a hairy-armed mime that I watched for an hour before he came over and said hi. That smile was so disarming but hid some pain and shyness. Imo.
Great memory - thanks for the share! What year was this? If Robin was playing a mime (I assume on a street?) it must have been before he got his first acting role in Laugh-In in 1977?
It was late 60's, if I'm not misremembering, and yes, a street mime like Shields and Yarnell used to do as well. I hung out in LA a great deal when I was a teenager. Met a number of "stars". Robin affected me personally, though, because I perceived him as an incredibly beautiful spirit so full of light and hurt. I miss him terribly.
Robin McLaurin Williams was born to Robert Fitgerald Williams and Laurie "Punky" McLaurin Smith at St Luke’s Hospital in Chicago Illinois. He had two older half-brothers.
He described himself as a quiet child and that he overcame his shyness in high school when he got involved with the drama club.
Robin Williams is best remembered for bringing his comedy and quick wit to television and films. His credits on film and television are numerous, his talent and wit in concert legendary. See a partial list of his credits at Robin Williams Filmography
Robin's first memorable character was "Mork" on the television show "Mork and Mindy". He said that he was thrilled when comedian Jonathan Winters joined the cast as their son, since Jonathan was a comedic hero of his. That made sense, since they both used a stream of consciousness approach to their humor. They both also suffered from depression.
