Actually I like the colorization to some extent. It makes these people more real. The sepia toned ones seem almost like some far away place and strange beings instead of everyday people like ourselves. We tend to forget that there was colorin their world.
-I agree with you about the leopard-skin rug. However, in the 1920's this was very common. People had bear skin rugs, and heads of all sorts of animals that they had killed. I remember visiting the home of Teddy Roosevelt in Long Island, and there were hundreds of animal heads on the walls, all shot by Teddy himself. It was a different time and place!
i agree, it upsets film makers who made monochrome movies, but, im all for it. keep their copies safe and colourise others so we can really enjoy the true image, we dont see in sepia or monchrome, unless your colour blind.
This was a popular thing back then, I believe. I have prints in the Wallace Nutting style done by David Davidson that are basically tinted photos. My mother did this as well to some of her photos.
Though this looks more like a painting to me.
That's my hobby :) When it's done well it brings new life to an image. To be fair the original monochrome images still exist when people use modern digital methods.
Maggie--I agree with you about the tiger-skin rug. However, in the 1920's this was very common. People had bear skin rugs, and heads of all sorts of animals that they had killed.
