Roy Boyd was born on August 7, 1906 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee United States to James H. Boyd and Estella Boyd, and had siblings Luther Boyd, Ollie Boyd, Earl Boyd, Mildred (Boyd) Barnett, Juanita (Boyd) Grimsley, and Richard Boyd. He married Clydia Ann Boyd, and they were married until Clydia's death on November 23, 1982. He had children Kendall Roy Boyd, Willene Pearl (Boyd) Edwards, Donald Lee Boyd, and David Eugene Boyd. Roy Boyd died at age 82 years old on November 26, 1988 in Vallejo, Solano County, CA, and was buried circa November 1988 at Skyview Memorial Lawn 200 Rollingwood Dr, in Vallejo.
