Maude Hunt Rubin
Maude S. Hunt was born to Samuel S. and Ada O. Hunt in Colorado. She had two younger siblings, Orrin S. and Henry E. Hunt. Her father was born in Wisconsin and her mother was born in Minnesota. Maude Hunt married Harry Edward Rubin (1899 - 1973) on July 26, 1912 in Salida Colorado and they had a daughter, Lois Elizabeth "Betty" Rubin (1913 - 1993). When Maud, or Maude, was 28, she and Harry, with their daughter, age 6, were living in Salida, on East Third Street. Maud wasn't working at the time and Harry was a salesman. According to the 1930s census, the family of three lived at 525 Park Ave in Salida Chaffee County Colorado. Harry was a "merchant" at a men's clothing store. Maude still wasn't working. When Maude was 58, she was living with her husband, Henry, in Santa Ana, Orange County, California. She was working as a claims officer in the Veteran's Administration. She is likely best remembered as a poet with over 100 published poems and 42 state and national awards to her name. She was also the author of a book of poems titled "Leaves of Laurel" (1968) and a contributor to "Lyrics of Three Women" (1964). To see a poem from "Leaves of Laurel", see How Great the Vision.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
