Virgilia's father was Joseph Harper Chew, 1881-1950. Her mother was Rebecca Dismuches Donelson, 1881-1953. In the 1910 census, Virgilia was 4, living on MacReine St in Houston, with her mother. They were living with Virgilia's grandparents (her mother's parents), her mother's two brothers, and 3 servants. Virgilia's grandfather was the president of a bank and her mother's brothe Joseph was an exporter of cotton. In the 1920 census, Virgilia was 14 and living on Cleburn St in Houston with her parents and 26 year old servant, Mary Jirkoffsky. She was attending school and her father had a wholesale grocery. In the 1940 census, Virgilia was living alone and single. She was living in Chicago and had previously lived in New York. She was 34 years old and single and said that she was an actress in the theater. Virgilia was an actress who appeared in the movies A Cry of Players (1968), King Lear (1968), Yerma (1966), Blue Denim (1958), Orpheus Descending (1957), and The Women (1936). She also acted on Broadway.
