My great great uncle Walter Edward Smale killed in Action in Gallipoli on the 7th August 1915 at the age of 19. He served in the 2nd light horseman regiment. A true Anzac and a true hero!
Hi Leonie, my family have been trying to trace our family history for the past 20yrs and I just stumbled across this wonderful photo of your relative Walter Smale. I believe that Watler Smale is the brother of my grandmothers father, William Smale. My grandmother's name is Joyce Evelyn Ryan and her parents were William Smale and Gertrude Agnes Ryan. All we know about William Smale was that he was a farmer from Charlie's Gully at Upper Freestone via Warwick and that he may have been of aboriginal heritage. We are very interested to find out some more information on him and where he was from and his family. If you are able to help us in any way that would be so wonderful and greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards Karen Sonter, Brisbane.
