Walter R. Hicks

I have an old studio photograph of Walter HICKS which was taken in the 1880's at the Husted Studio in Philadelphia, PA. Walter appears to be in his teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research and thanks to family genealogists I was able to gather the following information regarding Walter and his family:

Walter R. HICKS was b. Jun 1871 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Joseph Rodman HICKS (1823-1903) and Lydia or Lida S. R. or H. ROBERTS. Walter was one of 7 children born to this couple including Sallie; Mary Caroline; Rodman I.; Lydia Matthew; Baby Boy; Walter R.; and Emma or Erma L. HICKS, all born between 1859 and 1872. Walter’s father was married previously to Caroline BOOTH and had two additional children including Helen Louise HICKS (1848-1913) and Laura V. HICKS (1849-1872). Walter was a Cloth Merchant in Ardmore, PA.

Walter died 19 Mar 1906 in Philadelphia, PA and is buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in that city. Walter’s sister Emma L. HICKS died in 1900 in Montgomery County, PA. Walter’s sister Helen HICKS married Alfred James LUCAS, and they had a son, Alfred Stanley LUCAS (1882-1930). Alfred married Ethel Hamilton YEAGER in 1907 in Philadelphia, PA and they had two daughters, Mildred H. LUCAS, and Louise R. LUCAS. Mildred LUCAS married Jackson Kemper DERING Jr. in 1930 in Philadelphia and Louise LUCAS married Arthur PETERSON in 1940 in Cook County, IL.
