James Fay was born on September 27, 1707 in Westborough, Massachusetts US. Was baptized on December 27, 1707. He was married to Lydia Child on December 9, 1727, and they were together until Lydia's death in September 1760. He had a child Lydia Fay. Fay died at age 69 years old on June 12, 1777 in . Lydia (Fay) was born in 1730 in Westborough, Massachusetts US to Lydia Child and James Fay. She was in a relationship with Amaziah Spooner, and had a child Samuel Spooner. Margarets parents, James and Catherine Fay, came to Boston in the 1850's fleeing the Irish famine. Margaret was born in Andover, Massachusetts. In 1880 they lived at 159 Tremont, St. Boston. It is unknown where Margaret worked but sometime before 1887 she met a young Englishman, Alfred Shaw. Alfred was 8 years older then she was but he said he was born in 1860 instead of 1858. Perhaps he wanted to appear younger to Margaret and her family. They became engaged. In order to be married in a Roman Catholic church he converted and was baptised a catholic. According to Boston records they were married in 1887.
They had three children, Francis, Alfred and Anna.
In 1910 the family lived at 47 Smith St., Boston. Margaret was listed as a widow and as a nurse in a private home.
By 1930 Margaret and Anna had moved to 37 Aubrey Rd in Montclair, NJ. Her son Alfred and his family remained in Boston.
In the 1928 and 1931 Montclair directories they were listed at 33 Claremont Ave., Montclair,NJ. Margaret was listed as the widow of Alfred B. Shaw.
