I have an old studio photograph of W. L. MAYO which was taken at the E. E. Henry Studio in Leavenworth, KS. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870’s when he was just an infant. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Walter Lewis MAYO Sr. and have gathered the following information regarding Walter and his family:
Walter Lewis or Louis MAYO was b. 8 or 10 or 11 Jul 1877 in Leavenworth, KS to parents Lewis or Louis P. MAYO (1840-1911) and Florence or Flora Louisa or Louise ALLEN (1848-1881) who were married 11 Mar 1874 in Parma, NY. Walter had three siblings, Alfred David MAYO (1875-1955); Joseph Frederick MAYO (b. 1876); and Samuel Mead or Meade MAYO (1879-1960). Walter married Sarah Harrold JOSLIN (1881-1960) on 23 Jun 1908 in Minneapolis, MN and they had a son Walter Lewis MAYO Jr. (1911-2003) and two daughters, Janet Elizabeth MAYO (1912-2010) and one other.
Walter Sr. died 6 Aug 1961 in St. Paul, MN and he is buried in the Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN. Walter’s mother Flora was born in Le Roy, NY on 20 Jul 1848 and she died in Cape May, NJ on 9 Sept 1881.

Marianna Mayo Anderson, 1840 Virginia
This is an oil on canvas portrait of Marianna Mayo Anderson (1764 - 1849) of Richmond, Virginia. The primitive painting (14" x 12") depicts Marianna in her later years. She was the daughter of Mary Tabb and Col. John Mayo. In 1755 she was disowned by her father for marrying Nathan Anderson, a Methodist, abandoning the established Church of England. In 1849,the widowed Marianna and her son John fell victim to the cholera epidemic in Richmond. Dying within a few days of each other, they are buried in a single grave in the family plot in Richmond's Shockoe Hill Cemetery.

This is my grandmother on my dads's side. The only thing that I can remember is about a week before she passed away. We came over to go see her, and there was this frail woman lying in bed and she was coughing a lot. I think her hair was white with light brown streaks, maybe more white than brown, and then she died.
