The Photographer, Jeanette (Jessie) Hunter Choate, sent it to her sister, Susan Parker Choate Stebbins with an enclosed note saying that it reminded her exactly of the architecture of a house in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Susan was 2nd wife to Historical Maritime Photographer, Nathaniel Livermore Stebbins, and the family had several "photography friends" including noted Children's Photographer and Children's Advertising Photography Pioneer, Bertha Lothrop.

A few plates are at the Essex Peabody Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, and another small group are at the Mariners' Museum, but the bulk of the remaining collection - about 5,000 images total, a little more than half are original glass negatives - were acquired by the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities by its founder, William Appleton.

Mary Elizabeth Cranston was the sister of my 3rd Great Grandfather, Orville Walter Cranston [1836 - 1901].
I knew my own great grandmother, Doris Cranston Eddy Parker [1898 - 1983] very well.
As Orville was her grandfather, I have her first-hand accounts of him - stories to bring the man to life.
These are the daughters of Mary Elizabeth Cranston Choate, in photos sent to Orville and his daughter, Ella Linwood Cranston Eddy [1863 - 1931] over many years.
These photos, in turn, given to Ella's daughter Doris - who then skipped two generations to give them to me...and finally 33 years later...

"Susie" was probably not yet 7 years of age when her elder sister, Marian, died although she probably remembered Marian most of all her sisters.
Susie is the only one of the sisters who married. Susie was very close to her youngest sister, Jessie. While Susie "disappears" from this photo record for awhile (presumably attending her aging husband), she does reappear in later years in several photos with her sister, Jessie.

Mary Elizabeth Cranston was the sister of my 3rd Great Grandfather, Orville Walter Cranston [1836 - 1901].

Mark Douglas Stebbins, 12, of Ferndale Michigan was the first of the four victims of what was labeled as the Oakland County Child Killer. These cases remain unsolved to this day. The families involved have continued to push for resolve in this series of murders.
There has been high speculation that the son of a high level General Motors Executive (Chris Busch) was involved in these abductions / murders. Chris had been involved in other Counties within the State of Michigan whereas charges involving inappropriate conduct with minors were significantly reduced. He was a known pedophile who committed suicide on Nov 20th, 1978.
Mark disappeared on Feb. 15th, 1976 from Ferndale, MI and his body was recovered 4 days later on Feb. 19th, 1976 in Southfield, MI.
Mark was survived by his mother Ruth, his father Lester and his brother Michael.

Stebbins on August 22, 1959 at St. Pascal Catholic Church in Chicago. They raised their six children in Mt. Prospect and then Schaumburg. Surviving are five children, Gregory (Darlene) Stebbins of Hampshire, Douglas Stebbins of Woodstock, Cathy Stebbins of Elgin, Connie (Scott) Hensley of Belvidere, and Laura Stebbins of Bartlett; 10 grandchildren; and a sister in law, Diane Stebbins of Bartlett. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert on April 3, 1978; and her daughter, Susan V. Stebbins on August 28, 2003. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 28, at the Fredrick Funeral Home, 284 Park St., Hampshire. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery in Chicago.
