Can you help identify this photo?

Looking for information on a German Officer taken prisoner in WWII. We found some pictures of a German Officer & his family in my father's things. I don't know his name, could possibly be Schmidt. One of the pictures is him in uniform & probably his wife and daughter. I think the girl is probably in her sixties now.

I don't know when he was taken prisoner by the American forces but we would like to return these pictures to his descendants if we can find them. Any suggestions? My father served in the 9th Armored Division 131st Ordnance Maintenance Battalion, arriving in France in September 1944 (arrived in Europe on 8/20/1944 & returned to the states on 9/27/1945.) He served in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns.

This photo and the other with it are photos that I believe to be my great great grandmother or of her family. The William H Sappenfield picture on this site would have been a brother. Unfortunitely no one alive has been able to confirm whether this is Sarah or not. If anyone can tell me whether it is or isn't I would greatly appreciate hearing from you!
