His brother is Nobel prize winning author Gerhart Hauptmann and his daughter, Mera, is my grandmother by his first wife Theresa. After her passing he married Rosaline. He was a child prodigy playing piano for the Vienna Symphony at age 8. After moving to the US he played and conducted for NBC radio, Radiocity Music Hall,ABC radio and eventually the Seattle Symphony
