May and Goss Price, Missouri 1870
May C. and Goss Price. Probably taken in Missouri around 1870. May was born in 1865. Family moved to Texas, then New Mexico, and settled in Southern California around 1910.
May was my great-great grandmother. When she was a small child, William Bonney used to trade at their store in Tascosa Texas, or Alamagordo NM. I'm not certain which, but I remember her stories about what a friendly, playful man "Billy the Kid" was...as far as our family was concerned!

My mom's side of the family is Swedish (and still lives in Sweden) and she instilled in me lots of Swedish heritage and traditions which has made me who I am today. My dad's side of the family is German and Irish and the most likely the side of the family I get all my freckles from. Family is so important, and welcome everyone to discover more about them, their history, and share about their loved ones who make up the history of who we are!

Daniel R. Felts was born on March 21, 1919 in Alamogordo, New Mexico United States to Rollie "Smokey" Felts and Euginia June Felts, and has a brother Donald J. Felts. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Daniel R. Felts.
Euginia June (Bower) Felts was in a relationship with Rollie "Smokey" Felts, and has children Donald J. Felts and Daniel R. Felts. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Euginia June Felts.
Donald J. Felts joined the Navy in November, 1940. After training, his first and only ship assignment was aboard the ill-fated USS Indianapolis. It was a U.S. Navy heavy cruiser that was sunk by a Japanese submarine on July 30, 1945, shortly after delivering the internal components of the atomic bombs that were later dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Up to 900 men initially survived the sinking, but many succumbed to shark attacks, dehydration, and salt poisoning as they awaited rescue; only 316 were saved. BM1 Donald was one of the 316 who were saved. It was and remains the worst naval disaster in U.S.History. Donald was my father's twin brother. He was a talented artist, inventor. He was married for a time, and had two daughters. After the Navy, he became a Merchant Seaman, and traveled the oceans of the world. He served in many different capacities, earning a rating card that entitled him to work on any size or type of merchant vessel anywhere. He'd serve at sea for several years, save his money, and return back to the California desert to draw, paint, and work on inventions that he dreamed up. When he ran out of money, he'd return to the sea. His family would go for months and sometimes years without knowing his whereabouts. Despite his loner ways, he was kind, thoughtful, and perhaps the most introspective person I've ever known. By all accounts, his war experience resulted in his need for isolation and distance, even from those he loved dearly. He was a very special person, and I thought the world of him. He died too young. Loyal Bacon was on a cross-country trip when he happened upon my uncle Don and my grandfather Rollie herding sheep in New Mexico.

My grandmother had long-since divorced grandpa because of his drinking. My dad's twin (Don) went to NM to reconnect with his dad. After they worked together for several months, Rollie sneaked into town, collected his pay, and my uncle's, and left without a word. That's the last any of us ever heard from "Smokey" Felts...

Rollie Felts' Army picture. Probably taken around 1912.

Rollie was my Grandfather. I never knew him because my grandmother divorced him when my dad was very young.

I know that he was listed as a deserter, but turned himself in about 7 months later. I don't know if he was honorably discharged or not...although I doubt it.
