Wool swimsuits? Betty Maddux, her brother Bill and cousin, wearing their stylish bathing suits, in San Antonio TX one hot summer. Bathing suits in that era were made from wool. Can you imagine??? Don't you love the cowboy boots they are wearing to compliment the bathing suits?

Betty Maddux in a Goat Cart
Betty Louise Maddux had her pic taken in a 'traveling goat cart'. She was under two years old in the picture, taken in 1926. She and her family lived in Kansas City MO at the time so I suspect that is where the picture was taken. When I asked my grandson if he wanted to see a picture of Betty (his great grandmother) in a goat cart, he was surprised when he saw the picture because he thought I said 'go cart'. He didn't expect a GOAT.

Maurus Lechtenberg Jr. WWII Navy Maritime Service: This photo of my dad was taken during WWII. He was a member of the Maritime Service, stationed at Catalina Island, CA. The Maritime Service was charged with protecting the important harbors along the west coast and acting as escorts for ships moving supplies and munitions in and out of the ports.

Betty Lechtenberg & Peggy Mae, California
Monterey Park Drum and Bugle Corps Special Event: My mother, Betty Maddux Lechtenberg (R) and her cousin, Peggy Mae, were active members of the Drum and Bugle Corps. On this occasion they were introduced to the elderly gentleman in the center, whose name was not recorded on the photo. He was a Civil War Veteran who shook hands with Abe Lincoln. It was a special event for the girls to shake hands with a man who shook hands with Honest Abe.
