Philippa is the younger biological sister of the famous physicist Stephen Hawking, and also has two other siblings Mary Hawking, and Edward Frank David (1955–2003) who was adopted.
Philippa's parents attended Oxford - Frank read medicine and Isobel read Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
All of the Hawking children are well-educated. Mary is a professor who created a foundation to further research into cosmology, astrophysics, fundamental particle physics, motor neuron disease (MND), and to improve the care offered to people with MND.
