Atashni was my Great Grandfather. Most of what I learned regarding his life was from his son Louis Macamaux my Grandfather and the Abenakis Nation, Odanak Band.
I am told the last name was changed to Macamaux by dropping the ic from Macamic and adding aux and the changing his first name from Atashni to Anselme another French name. This was supposedly done so he could get into U.S. as a Non-Native. Around 1865 when U.S. was trying to get rid of the Native Peoples
Atashni and his wife Tama Pamanuk (had 5 children 3 boys, Louis, Adelard, Robert, and 2 girls) we have no information on.
