I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. For information on the folks who build and support the community see Daniel - Founder & Creator.
My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the United States’ 16th President in 1861, and is best remembered for his role in ending slavery in the United States. During his presidency, he signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which declared that all slaves in the Confederate states were to be set free in 1863. Lincoln warned the South in his Inaugural Address: “In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you…. You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect and defend it.” Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky in 1809 to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks and spent much of his early life working on the family farm. He was largely self-educated, and his passion for reading and learning helped him to become a successful lawyer and politician.

Ulysses S Grant
Born in Point Pleasant, Ohio on April 27, 1822, Hiram Ulysses Grant was the first child of Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson Grant. Descended from a long line of patriots, including an ancestor who fought in the French and Indian War and a grandfather who served in the American Revolution at Bunker Hill, Grant's father was a passionate abolitionist and Whig Party supporter who worked as a foreman in a tannery. When Grant was born, his parents selected the name Ulysses from a hat, but his father later added his own name, Hiram, to his birth certificate. Ulysses S. Grant, or Hiram Ulysses Grant, was an accomplished American military leader and politician. He served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877, and as Commanding General, he played a crucial role in leading the Union Army to victory during the American Civil War. As president, Grant was committed to civil rights and collaborated with Radical Republicans to safeguard the rights of African Americans, including the creation of the Justice Department.

Reuben & Priscilla (Hale) McNett
A photo of Reuben Riley McNett and wife Priscilla Hale McNett. HE KNEW HIS HORSES...Great Great Grandpa Reuben Riley Mcnett was a horse breeder. Born in upstate New York in 1815, Reuben and his family moved to Northville Illinois in 1838 and then Reuben, his wife and kids moved to Brookfield Missouri in 1862 during the Civil War. For over 20 years, he bred fine horses and was well known for his stock. At the age of 70 in 1885, he, his wife and some of the grown children moved once again to Fish Lake Valley, Nevada just across the White Mountains from Bishop, California. In Fish Lake Valley, he continued to breed horses for the miners and ranchers there. This photo, likely taken in the 1870s, is of Reuben and his wife Priscilla Hale McNett. Her father was David Hale, the older brother of Emma Hale who married the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith. So Priscilla and Joseph Smith's children were first cousins.
