Daddy was patriotic, funny, family man and well liked by everyone. He spent two years in the Army during the Korean War. Dad rode horses during his younger years and played football in high school in Lefors TX. After his service in the Army he went to work for Halliburton. After about 10+ years he went to work for Dowell Schlumberger and they sent the family to Jakarta Indonesia in 1970. Daddy worked there for about 4 1/2 years then he was transferred to Singapore. During his time in Singapore he was very active within the community and in the American community there as well. On Friday night and Saturday afternoons he could be found at the football field coaching or refereeing or cheering on us kids. He was always helping us practice or explaining things to us. He was an avid football and baseball fan. I remember there were almost always people at our house on the weekends for bar bqs or open house or just coming to visit. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it and if they just needed someone to talk to he was there. I don't remember what year but I think around 1976-78 dad started his own rental tool company, Rutledge Oilfield Services & Supplies. After I graduated from school in Singapore in 1984 a couple years later the stockholders forced my dad out and took over the company. Dad and mom moved back to the USA with my brothers, and at some point daddy moved to Amarillo to help my grandfather take care of his mom, my nanny. Dad also returned to college, Amarillo college, and would have graduated that fall with his real estate degree. Instead, two teenagers shot dad for $7.00 and change and some beer on November 17, 1992.
