2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!
William Julius Strandgard of Chelt Australia was born in 1863 in Clunes, Hepburn Shire County, VIC, and died at age 80 years old in 1943 in Chelt. William Strandgard was buried in Springvale, Greater Dandenong City County.
Bessie had a brother, Charles. Her husband, Jens, married her bigamously, as he had a wife and child in Denmark. They married at the home of her parents on Saturday, February 28th, 1910, there were no children of the marriage. Should anyone wish further information they can contact me. I have photos. of them, also her parents. She was born Bessie Martin and married into the Strandgard family. She did not have any connection with Vernon, David, Hermine, Fern, nor Joel Strandgard as they are from the U.S. There were no children from her marriage with Jens. As she was a socialite she was described as a lady on her marriage certificate, her marriage was on February 29th 1910, at her parents home at |Beaconsfield Parade, Middle Park. The groom's wedding gift to her was a purse full of gold sovereigns, he being wealthy from Danish nobility.
Died at 6 months old. She died from diarrhea exhaustion .
He was taken from school and put to work in a market garden aged 9 years. This was normal in those times.
She was my grandmother but I only saw her approximately 3 times in my life. Unfortunately she was not a pleasant woman so was avoided. I do recall vividly the day of her funeral with men coming to the house where she lay in her coffin in the parlour. They would have been her brother's no doubt as women did not attend funerals in those times. She also had a daughter to her husband Robert Harris. She was Victoria Harris.
Victoria Agnes Harris was born at zeehan tasmania australia, and has a brother Albert Edward Strandgard. Victoria Harris died at melbourne australia. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Victoria Agnes Harris.
She was my mother and believed her name to be Hannah Clara. She was a very hard worker very lively person great personality. Sadly she lost her first born child, a son Lechman Singh, he died from tuberculosis when one week past his 7th birthday, his father, Pharaoh Singh, her first husband, also died from this disease. She migrated to Australia with her other son, Gerald, to give him a chance at life away from London. Life was very hard for her in a countryi with no family, she was one of 13 children, a very brave woman indeed.
He was my father. When World War 1 broke out he was in the Tropical Force which had been created to protect Australia from Germany. He, somewhat naively, left and joined the Australian Army and was arrested as a deserter which was not correct but it was sorted out. He fought at Gallipoli.
